Metrobility's Radiance Services Line Card for Gigabit Ethernet provides the perfect migration strategy for service providers who need to manage a remote device using SNMP today but may want to utilize the emerging IEEE802.3ah standard for more robust management in the future. The Gig-E Services Line Card offers superior flexibility to evolve from an SNMP-based network interface device (NID) to supporting the emerging standards for operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) as defined by IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Task Force. As a carrier-class device, the Gig-E Services Line Card is specifically designed to maintain the maximum isolation between the public and private network while supporting the OAM requirements defined by both the IEEE and the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). The Services Line Card extends baseline VLAN technologies to enable delivery of multiple, converged services across the first-mile, optical access network. These services include transport (link-specific) OAM, interconnectivity (network-specific) OAM, and services (application-specific) OAM. Metrobility's access solution is simple to install, minimizes inventory requirements, and accommodates both path fault management (SNMP/PING) and link fault management (IEEE802.3ah features). Utilitizing 802.3ah management features eliminates the requirement for an IP address at the customer site. Because an IP address is not required at every access point, this solution scales extremely well for a large metro access service deployment which otherwise would require the management of countless IP addresses.
