VPN-1 Accelerator Card III - Cryptographic accelerator - PCI
Organizations are rapidly deploying Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to deliver secure connectivity to remote offices, mobile users, and business partners. However, as the volume of VPN traffic grows, performance becomes an increasingly important concern. The VPN must secure network communications without degrading performance. The computationally intensive tasks required by some encryption algorithms, such as 3 DES, can exhaust host CPU resources, causing the VPN gateway to become a performance bottleneck. Check Point Software Technologies meets the performance challenge with the VPN-1 Accelerator Card III. Developed jointly with Broadcom Corporation, the VPN-1 Accelerator Card is a PCI-compatible add-in, which offloads intensive cryptographic operations from the host CPU of a VPN-1 Pro gateway, to a dedicated processor on the card. Even when VPN traffic is moderate, VPN-1 users benefit from the card by freeing gateway resources for other security tasks. The VPN-1 Accelerator Card III delivers more 300 Mbps 3DES VPN throughput.
